"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..." This is one of my favorite Christmas songs! I love to drive around and look at the lights or just sit on my couch and watch the classic Christmas movies! There is something special about this season. Now of course most of the decorations, parties, and songs have absolutely nothing to do with the true reason we celebrate, Jesus!
For the past couple of weeks, no matter where I go, I often hear others ask, "Are you ready for Christmas?" Just about all the responses I can recall were, "Ready for it to be over!" This really made me think or wonder why is it we are celebrating but wishing for the celebration to be over? I guess we've put so much emphasis on gifts and not leaving someone out or thinking what that will think of the gift, that we forget that it's not the gift but the love behind it if you choose to give gifts. For what is the purpose of a gift if there is no love? For love is the greatest gift. Love is what God has given us through Jesus. "For God so LOVED the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) When we keep things simple, we tend to live happier lives as we understand that happiness comes ONLY from within. We makes things complicated, but it's truly simple; just love. Allow the love of Christ to flow through you so it can flow out of you. It is then that we can begin to truly love ourselves, our families, those closest to us, and those we encounter. So if you choose to celebrate, truly celebrate as Christ would with love. For his gifts were healing, peace, truth, and love. "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." Love is not in things, but love is in the Creator of all living things; God.
