Lately I've been attempting to jog each morning before I head to the gym. Usually I have a goal in mind somewhat along the lines of "I will job for point A to point B and on the way back, I will jog from here to there." Now when I actually start jogging, well let's just say it doesn't always work out that way because I'm so not a jogger! I am however, determined to be in shape!
For the first time yesterday, I noticed that after I set my initial jogging goals, if I looked too much ahead, I would stop sooner than the goal I set for myself. So this time, I decided to quickly focus back to each step directly in front of me which helped me to reach the goals I had set. Light bulb moment! How many times in life do we set goals and then become weary, fearful, and full of worry when we look too far ahead on how things will work out instead of focusing step by step on what's in front of us. We set goals and quickly drop them once our initial fire or motivation has died down as we become too fixed on what's ahead instead of working at things hour by hour and day by day. Our thoughts become negative and fear and worry begin to take residence within us. Yet, this is the time when we focus back on the goal as we understand that we serve a God who created all and who is All. He is able to make our paths straight. (Proverbs 3:6). As we do our part, our trust is not in what we see ahead but in God who knows what is ahead. What awesomeness is on the other side of that goal? We won't ever know unless we trust God and endure the journey step by step. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6). Let's get it!
